About A&D: Art in Public Places

The A&D: Art in Public Places app is a collaboration between students at Dixon High School in Dixon, CA. The Art and Design Academy is a cohort of students taking shared classes in English, History and Science. Working with them in developing the app were students from AP Computer Science Principles.

The Art and Design Academy students worked in teams to create sculpture projects to display in Dixon downtown businesses. Each team was assigned a specific decade, and their sculpture represents their specific decade. The multiple are located at different downtown locations, and displayed with them are QR codes that take you to documents within this app. Once in the app, you can see historical, chemical, and student information for the displayed projects. Users can also view other projects displayed in nearby businesses.

Students in AP Computer Science Principles used a tool called Thunkable to create a user interface that can display the documentation and navigate between different teams' projects.

This app helps to highlight collaborative work between students at Dixon High and the businesses of downtown Dixon. It promotes a closer community as well helping the Art and Design students to display some of their work. This app helps to connect you with more information about all the displayed projects as well as give you firsthand information from the students themselves.
