About Burstcoin Wallet

Burstcoin was launched in August 2014 with a new proof of capacity algorithm. Proof of capacity (PoC) is a new system where miners could mine using free space on their devices.

This means everybody can be his own bank of issue and be part of a decentralized payment system!

Miners fill unused hdd space with Burst plot files, and then can mine using those plot files where their hashrate is effectivly the amount of space occupied with plot files. Generating the plot files is very computationally expensive, but mining with them uses very little electricity as it scans over the relavent plot data and then idles until the next block. This makes Burst the greenest cryptocurrency in the world – and can be mined on phones. There are 2 main advantages of this system. Unlike Proof of Work, Proof of Capacity favors end users by design. If Burst was in the same extremely competive situation like Bitcoin, the best achievable hashrate/W is from normal users mining with their free space on computers they'd be running anyway, as negligable extra electricity is used, whereas large mining operations have overhead to run, so it is likely to stay much more decentralized.

In December 2014, Burst was updated to include the Smart Contracts by Automated Transaction(AT) system – way before Ethereum's Smart Contracts. With ATs, it is possible to write scripts, compile them, and then announce them to the network. The script then gets it's own Burst address, and controls that address instead of a user. This allows for implementation of trustless services. Some examples of things that can(or have) been done are:

-Lotto: The script sleeps for a while then picks a random person who sent it funds and empties the account to them

-Crowdfunding: The script sleeps for a while then checks the balance against a target balance, then either sends it to the recipient or refunds everyone

-Auction: When receiving funds the script refunds the previous bid, and at the end sends the funds to the creator

-Atomic Cross chain transfer: A script has an embedded sha256 hash, and will send it's funds to a particular user if a message is sent to it which hashes to that hash, or refund it's coins if the message is not received. Another user creates a matching AT on a different blockchain with the same hash. When the first user uses the message to release the 2nd AT, the 2nd user will see the message and can use it to release the 1st AT, resulting in a trustless trade. Currently no other coins support ATs to do this transfer with, but it is expected that Qora will soon.

-Certificate of Deposit: A script receives funds from a user, then some interest from another account, then locks up the funds for an amount of time, then sends them to the initial user. (there actually has been some interest in this most likely from speculators or large miners interested in paying some to get coins locked up away from exchanges)
